The End of Part I

Today is the one year anniversary of the cablog!
.
To celebrate this event (quite major one I might add since I never thought I'd be keeping this up for such a long time) I've been pondering for days for the right way of approach. Different ideas were taken into consideration such as a fun and intriguing contest, a silly video blog, maybe a more in-depth and thoughtful written entry or just one image heavy outfit entry to please my style conscious readers. After much thinking I've decided to celebrate in the perfect way.

I have created a new blog.

Now there's no need to panic because of this change. I know I did when vague ideas started to form solid visions in my mind about the new site. But I quickly calmed myself down by saying that change is good. Frightening at first but in the end change does you good in one way or another. And hey, I recently moved into a new appartment so why not fulfil this run with a fresh new blog?

The concept will remain the same. I am fond of the nostalgic feel and the vintage sense of a style diary. The theme of blog entries will be the same more or less. What I do, what I wear, what I think and to some extent what I feel. The only minor changes will be the web address and the layout, even though I've tried my best to keep the character of the cablog in place.

So if you readers still are interested in following this blog diary of mine then click on the link below, remember to update your blogrolls and be sure to let me know how you feel about the change. Finally I need to state that this blog will remain accessible to all readers, as an archive of the old part I. Not sure about you readers but I for one will take a look back once in a while, just to see how things have changed.

After a year with blogging I've made contact with a lot of wonderful people, learnt a great deal and have certainly expanded my creativity and knowledge. I hope this new beginning will only continue my journey of style.

Thank you and do take a look at part II of the cablog at

Time Will Pass, Things Will Change

For the upcoming anniversary of the cablog I've made a decision. At the moment I'm still working on a couple of finishing details so this update will only be a little teaser.
.
I promise everything will be ready on the date of celebration. Be sure to check back on April 14th 2009.
.
Time for a change has come.

A Little Break To A Familiar Place

I'll be taking a short break to visit my sweet hometown. An update will probably be posted by the end of this week or Monday.

Take care,

A New Place Called Home

As promised, a few shots from the new appartment. Only my room is in order, the rest is still a mess. Not much more to do till Kristine moves in, then the room mates can decide how to decorate the new home.

The moving process was exhausting but everything went smoothly thanks to great help from good friends. And yes, organising the wardrobe was given high priority.

Edit: I changed the header image. The book cover look is just wonderful and suits the concept of style diary perfectly!

On The Move

This entry will be in English and Norwegian. This is a rare incident because I stopped writing thecablog in both languages a while ago. But as the content will be a brief update to those interested in my life and style, this way will suit the subject just fine.
.
This week I...
.
* finished one cruel and mind-numbing midterm exam in chemistry
* moved into a new appartment closer to town with my dear and cute Kristine
* will be at work most of the weekend
* still need to organise the new home
.
My life seems to be constantly in motion with stressful days and suddenly major changes just appear out of the blue. But I love it all the same, the exciting and spontaneous, fast paced life of a big city student. When I've settled nicely into the new surroundings I'll try to show you readers my home and neighbourhood. It could be Spring time and the fact that I'm now living very close to downtown, but I can't help all the creative energy I'm feeling!
.
Before I switch to Norwegian I would like to say THANK YOU for the great feedback on the previous entry. Lots of interesting and different perspectives regarding my style, but they all seem to lead to classic and quirky. Simple and clean with an eye for soft details. A mix of old and new, past looks re-interpreted to fit the contemporary way of expression and modern day life. This made me think of a few words my mom said many years ago:
.
"Oh, you're such an old man trapped inside a young boy"

And finally a few lines to my Norwegian readers:
.
Bad, kjøkken, gang og to soverom. Et kvarters gangavstand til Karl Johan. Tullins Café rett rundt hjørnet. Favoritt-bruktbutikk UFF rett over gata.

Development of Style - part II

Part II of a running blog entry concept, Development of Style. Hardly a shock that I like smart and neat outfits worn in a casual way. I balance the line between sharply dressed up and slouchy relaxed with a delicate colour palette and a couple of favourite patterns. I've become more toned down and nowadays I rely mostly on subtle details to create a certain soft look.
.
A few points of highly prefered style elements:
.
1) usually black, grey and white as basics
2) all shades of blue, all-time favourite is navy blue
3) soft and light colours, mostly in earth shades such as beige, camel and sand
4) rarely bright and flashy colours, more of dark, deep and rich ones
5) patterns such as stripes and dots in all sizes
6) different variations of squares like small checks, big plaids and so on
7) a classic watch, a pair of slightly geeky glasses, cute suspenders, hats and old looking shoes are among the essentials
.
Here are more outfits with the staple pieces I saved after the major SCC session (Spring Cleaning of Closet).
.

Sweater: GAP
Trousers: Zara
Suspenders: secondhand
Watch: gift
Glasses: Prada
.

Tunic: H&M
Trousers: Zara
Belt: Lindex
.

Finally, just out of curiosity: I rarely ask people directly how they perceive my style. Of course I show off newly purchased items to friends, family member and last but not least you dear readers to get reactions, but honestly I've never wondered too much about how others look at the way I dress. As longs as I like it and it doesn't offend people in some strange way, I go for it. After re-organising my wardrobe and considering that I've almost blogged for a year (anniversary coming up later this month!) I do however want to know. I'd be very grateful if you could answer the question below:

.
In short, how would you describe the way I dress?
.
Since I'm not a connoisseur with the fashion and style terminology, feel free to use all kinds of terms and adjectives. It could be fun to hear opinions in a relevant way for once. Don't be afraid to get critical, I'm used to rude remarks regarding clothes and such. Dressing a bit different from an early age in a small town had both ups and downs. But I'm glad how things turned out and now I simply shrug off negative vibes from individuals filled with insecurity. I'm a lot more interested in hearing thoughts from people who actually now what they're talking about. And maybe I'll be able to pin down my so-called style with your help.
.
Thank you,
.

The Way of a Gentleman

"It's never the pieces of clothing themselves but always the way you wear them that brings out character. It's in the way you carry yourself, how you walk, talk, laugh and smile. Those are the things in which I believe can create a personal style"

PS: THANK YOU so much for the lovely comments and interesting opinions on the subject of Development of Style in previous entry. I really enjoyed reading your thoughtful responses and for once I felt a real two-way communication with you readers. I have replied in the entry's comment field, feel free to check it out.

Some of my favourites from Garance Doré and The Sartorialist. I try to only post photos taken myself to create an original feel to the cablog. Nowadays street style shots are easy to locate, especially for you readers who most certainly are more style conscious than I am. But once in a while visual aid from other sites and blogs is needed to fully express certain thoughts and feelings...

Development of Style

Last weekend I pulled a very brutal and well organised cleaning-out-of-closet session. After years of collecting different clothes and accessories I've had all kinds of fun. But in the past few months I've starting experiencing more of those horrible freaking-out-what-to-wear-in-the-morning incidents. And trust me, it's not because of lack of order. I'm meticulously neat. My conclusion to the growing issue was the fact that I simply have too much random stuff. Clever cat I am.
.
With a few simple rules in mind I started a long and extensive cleaning process. I only saved my favourite pieces and the ones I've worn frequently in the past. No more of the I-could-wear-this-one-of-these-days arguments, if I hadn't used a piece of clothing or accessory in a while I just cut that one out. Straight to the pile. And may I say I'm relieved. It's been so much easier to dress and I can now devote more time and love to the pieces I actually enjoy wearing. And less time in front of the closet means more time to loved ones and other just as exciting activities.
.

Sweater: H&M
Trousers: Vailent (I got sick of all the different words dress pants, chinos, khakis... now it's plain, simple and generally just trousers)
Scarf: Burberry
Watch: gift
Glasses: Prada
.

Cardigan: H&M
Shirt: Zara
Trousers: Vailent
.
I still don't think I've found my definite style because for me the concept of style is something always in development and motion, forever changing and adapting. But I am sure I've found a certain way of dressing which I find comfortable, fun and suits my life at the moment. As you can see there are certain colours and patterns to which I'm attached and have a inclination to keep on wearing in different combinations. These are just a few outfits with the staple pieces I love. With the new wardrobe order filled with only favourites I can barely imagine all the fun ways I can mix and match. I've prepared another set for a later blog entry... I do find this development quite interesting!

Sunday Mood

A cup of organic fair trade white fruity tea and a good book is the perfect combination for a lazy afternoon. Book bought at major discount and fabric bag found at vintage shop. Cheap and charming old things, I adore.

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday!

This I did last Sunday. Today I'm locked up at study hall (yes, even on a Sunday) to do last minute revising for a midterm exam. Oh how I crave another lazy day...

In Uniform

I found this military jacket at a vintage shop a couple of weeks ago. The cut is wonderful, the size fits perfectly, love the faded blue colour, the strong epaulettes and those golden buttons. And of course it was ridiculously overprized... but I had to have it.
.
A tough jacket on a delicate and light outfit. Bold and soft, the perfect combination. Also the purchase makes me wonder where this jacket comes from. What stories could it tell?
